Founded in 1926 - and with its roots built over de Polytechnic Academy, created in 1837 - FEUP is one of the 14 faculties of the University of Porto, the largest university of Portugal. The Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials (LCM) is a Research Unit of the Chemical Engineering Department at FEUP.

The LCM research staff consists of 6 permanent members (PhD), 4 non permanent members (PhD), and around 20 postgraduate students of various levels (post-doctoral, PhD and MSc students). The research activities of LCM are focused (but not limited to) on the intersection of the fields of Catalysis and Carbon Materials. The current research program is subdivided into three lines: Nanostructured Carbon Materials and Catalysts, Environmental Catalysis and Related Technologies, and Catalytic Technologies for Sustainability.
