The School of Life Sciences (HLS) of FHNW is located in the centre of the trinational Basel area (Switzerland – France – Germany). Approximately 80 scientists at HLS work currently on approximately 120 projects. As life sciences is the main industrial business sector in the region most of these projects are carried out with partners from pharmaceuticals, fine chemistry, molecular diagnostic, medical analysis, biotechnologies, and environmental sectors. The research and development activities of HLS encompasses a wide range of projects ranging from the development of new products and devices and the optimisation of production processes in terms of material and energy saving up to life cycle and risk assessment of some of these products.
