Pierre & Marie Curie University (UPMC) is one of the largest universities teaching science and medicine in France, and indeed in Europe, with 4000 researchers and teaching academics/researchers, 180 laboratories, and some 30 000 students including 8000 in postgraduate studies. The Plasma Chemical Engineering Laboratory and Surface Treatment (LGPPTS) consist of 4 teams, working on plasma processes and plasma surface engineering. The laboratory has a long experience with thin film deposition by low pressure plasma (oxides, dielectrics, semiconductors, organic coatings), with surface functionalisation (with carboxylic and amine groups) and more recently with surface activation and thin film deposition by atmospheric pressure plasma. LGPPTS has a close relationship with industry and technology from their research projects in plasma processing of materials and waste treatment has been transferred to SMEs and industrial entities.
