The vTI was established from the German Federal Research Centre for Fisheries, the German Federal Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products and part of the German Federal Agricultural Research Centre (FAL). The Institute of Agricultural Technology and Biosystems Engineering – Department of Agricultural Technology is working with an interdisciplinary team of scientists (chemists, biologists, biotechnologists and engineers) and technical staff mainly in the fields of environmental protection, (bio-)catalytic conversion of renewables, waste utilization and elimination of pollutants. Profound relevant expertise is existing in the fields of water remediation, heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, applied polymer chemistry, immobilisation technologies, chemical and mechanical engineering as well as biotechnology, biocatalysis and biosensors. The Department has a permanent staff of 50 employees (9 permanent scientists and 28 post-docs, PhD students and project engineers).
